Expect to find curse words, nudity, (occasionally explicit) talk of sex, and angry ranting, but NEVER slurs or sexually violent language. I use TW when I am aware of the need and on request.

I love LJ's 'notes' feature.

reason #652 I love LJ: notes. I use them when first adding someone so that I can check on how long we have been friends - if it has been more than 8 months and we haven't connected, I will probably take them off. Once I connect with people I make the note their name. If they are still new to me I will add several key facts because unless you use your face as your icon or regularly post photos of yourself, it's the key facts that are the link to memory.

On facebook I have added people from so many sources and I am often lost as to how we initially connected. Also I might forget who has done something terrible on FB, but on LJ notes save me. If someone is a raging bigot I don't want to accidentally add them again because they changed their default icon and I couldn't remember the name -- and re-adding someone I never clicked with after months and months is just awwwwkward.

Yessss, LJ's notes feature is A+. I tend to note how I met someone and what we have in common, especially if we met through a friending frenzy where there's a sudden influx of new people.
*nods* yeah it is saving me with all the new people I added at once!
I like it also. I put name and location at first, other stuff later.
*nods* I don't hold names in my head like I do specific facts, so I have to include those.
I like the LJ notes feature too.
wow, I had no idea LJ had a notes feature. how long have I been here? ha!
I just realized that it's a paid/permanent account thing: http://www.livejournal.com/support/faq/295.html :-p
ah, I go back and forth with paid accounts.
I have not seen the LJ notes feature so perhaps it's a paid account feature. It does sound useful, though and I'm glad it helps you :-) A while ago, when I posted to the "add me" community, I wrote notes on paper of the basics of each person to try and enable me to know who is who. It takes time but as well I find, it helps. I too often find it awkward adding new people as you never know if it's someone you did not click with under a previous username although there's always that chance, it could work under a clean slate, I suppose. Just rare.
yep, you are right! Oops. I think it came out after I got my permanent account, so I didn't realize.
That is an excellent idea. I am always confused a bit after a mass friending. Thanks for the idea!
welks! :D
I also like that LJ doesn't have "we think you will want to read" analytics - you get everything. I don't love how much I miss that I actually want to read on FB.
YESSSSSS. FB is so controlling of and interfering with people's interactions. I just put on notifications for the ones I mustn't miss, and make a small list of people that I read when I have the spare time. I can't imagine letting FB curate for me completely -- it's like clicking "I'm feeling lucky."
Good idea.
:D it is a paid feature though: http://www.livejournal.com/support/faq/295.html
I did not know about this feature. It sounds really useful...turns out it's a paid feature, which explains why I never saw it, but reading about this gave me an idea for making notes in a spreadsheet, which will work just as well.

Sometimes I get confused about who's who when I add new people, which is why I like to lurk in the add-me communities and add just one or two new friends at a time, so I can get to know them well enough to keep everyone straight, but I think keeping notes is a much better idea!
*nods* yeah before this recent meme I think the most I ever added at once was 5! I'm maybe going to end up overwhelmed and needing to pare down, but I'm excited to have such a bustling flist again.
I started using it after reading this entry (to keep track when I add new people), but I kinda didn't realize the note floats up every time you mouse over the link to someone's username!

How useful, I will note all the people's names I keep forgetting. (Remembering names is something very difficult for me :( )
