What sort of writing prompts are given via/en LJ Idol? I enjoy reading others' writing. :) I used to dabble in creative writing as a child and then when I was studying in Undergrad.

There's a new one every week -- this one was "build a better mousetrap." The community is open to anyone, so you can join even if you're not a contestant, and you can "play the home game" which means writing on the prompts and then posting it in "the green room" (an entry that gets posted weekly also).

If you're feeling any sort of generalized creative "lack" (for, well, lack of a better term), even doing home game can be really valuable. Putting yourself on a deadline, challenging yourself to come up with different thematic twists and content... it's pretty great. I tend to come out with enough good material and starters that I can just sorta roll on with 'em for years.
