Expect to find curse words, nudity, (occasionally explicit) talk of sex, and angry ranting, but NEVER slurs or sexually violent language. I use TW when I am aware of the need and on request.

I think you can learn a bit about someone by how they spend their money (when they have a choice). So if you can remember, please tell me the last 3-11 items you purchased for yourself, and please comment with links to your wishlists if you have them online anywhere (in your LJ, amazon, etc). ;-)

My last 11:

Sexual (Dis)Orientation: Gender, Sex, Desire and Self-Fashioning by Tamsin Wilton (from amazon, per [livejournal.com profile] queerbychoice's recommendation)
Coming From The Light by Sarah Hinze (from amazon)
The World Is Bound By Secret Knots by Noe Venable (from amazon)
Invisible Ones by Orenda Fink (from amazon)
Ramses: The Battle of Kadesh - Vol III by Christian Jacq
Ramses: The Lady of Abu Simbel - Vol IV by Christian Jacq
Ramses: Under the Western Acacia - Vol V by Christian Jacq
^^^ I found ALL THREE of those at the SAME used book store! I got an urge to call the used book store which is farthest away from me, which I very very rarely go to (maybe once a year) and hardly ever think of. I followed the urge without thinking about it, and when she answered I randomly asked if they had any Christian Jacq books (note that they are VERY hard to find -- I've seen the 1st and 2nd in the series but NEVER #3-5), and they had FOUR (including one I already had) of his books. (I went and picked them up the same day, of course) That's pretty much a freaking miracle! they were also very cheap when I traded in some other books. I am confident that God/dess has something important for me to learn from them, and I'm pretty excited about it :D
The Godmother's Apprentice by Elizabeth Ann Scarborough (from amazon)
Godmother's Web by Elizabeth Ann Scarborough (from amazon)
The Summer Storm Journals by Noe Venable (from the artist)
Catgirl Frank Frazetta poster (here's a full-sized image) (I'm super excited about this! :D can't wait for it to get here!)

It's so funny you should post this because I just made a purchase on Amazon. A very nerdy, academia-focused purchase. I'm almost too embarrassed to admit what I bought:

1. Teaching Online: A Practical Guide, 2d Edition by Susan Ko and Steve Rossen
2. Introduction To Rubrics: An Assessment Tool To Save Grading Time, Convey Effective Feedback and Promote Student Learning
3. Make Money Teaching Online: How to Land Your First Academic Job, Build Credibility, and Earn a Six-Figure Salary

You can see my public amazon wishlists here (http://www.amazon.com/gp/registry/wishlist/2IMKJQGZ4RZLE/).

HAHAHA! that is super-nerdy :D *giggles*
What an awesome post this is! It's so good to know I'm not the only person with a mile-long wishlist. Posts like this make me wish I was independently wealthy so I could make everyone's wishes come true. Hell, looking at my own Amazon wishlist makes me wish that. Now, let's see. The last few things I bought for myself...I assume we're not including food.

Jansport 24" Duffelpack in black/white skulls and roses
Rimmel Eyeliner in Aubergine
Rimmel Eyeliner in Evergreen
Wrought-iron filigree framed wall mirror
Soft cotton jersey dress with puff sleeves and wrap belt in ice green
Black & fuschia embroidered cocktail dress from Torrid
A copy of Diana Gabaldon's Dragonfly in Amber
Gray cable knit sweater jacket with belt and chunky buttons

And this is my Amazon Wishlist:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/registry/wishlist/ref=lst_llp_wl-go/002-3490106-6274446

:D I know, I always wish I was rich when I see that someone wants something.

That jersey dress sounds awesome! I want to see photos of you in it!

hey, you knit, right? would you be up for a commission? I want a bright rainbow-colored ruffle-front or overlapping-front knit duster like this (http://img510.imageshack.us/img510/5135/duster2qc5.jpg) or this (http://img102.imageshack.us/img102/149/duster3ye7.jpg), and in rainbow yarn (http://susanneshouseofwool.com/mediac/400_0/media/Rainbow$2010ply.jpg). Are you available/able to do that sort of commission, or do you know anyone who is? As long as the price is reasonable, I'll be happy to pay half in advance.
I do not, but I have two friends who do and they're both really friendly and would be happy to hear from you if you want to just drop them a line in their LJ's and say "Ali sent me"

- Or, I can ask them through my LJ, if you'd rather.
There's Jessie, who is mindblowingly talented, she's made beautifully cabled and seed stitched sweaters for Roary: [livejournal.com profile] gilneas

And Irene, who isn't quite as talented as Jessie, but she's still much much better than I am: [livejournal.com profile] malkycat

<3
oh awesome!!! would you mind asking them for me? please?
No problem!
and that link leads me to my own wishlist ? can you check it?
Oops!

http://www.amazon.com/gp/registry/wishlist/MHGCZD84J5H/

There we go.
*giggles* is that YOUR wishlist or Roary's? ;-)
Both! XD
I have affirmation by savage garden. I don't know what your beliefs are about cd rights, but i'd be happy to send you a copy if you're not opposed.
I like to own the official CD for the cover art etc., but I'm not opposed to it. I used to be, but then I realized that I only buy them used, so the artist gets nothing from me anyway, heh. Thanks for the offer though!
I considered doing this, but lately I've been trying to get into photography, some of which will hopefully include nude photography. I've also bought some self-improvement products. If I was to put the list together, along with some other random purchases, it would raise some eyebrows.

I'll have to pass.
hmm, now I am very curious! oh well. ;-)
Impressive and eclectic list. I know a lot more about you based on this alone! Fan-fucking-tastic. :)
awesome! :D do you have a wishlist online anywhere?
I have an amazon wishlist and a few others out there, but none of them are public. Mostly books, DVDs and the like, but I've definitely found a lot of interesting items on your list that I'm considering to add to my own out of pure curiosity. Thanks! :)
my last 11

2. i hope they serve beer in hell by tucker max

heh, I wouldn't have guessed you to be into interior decorating stuff ;-) I LOVE corner tables/desks, but I've never owned one.
last night, i purchased:
  • stila lip glaze in strawberry (http://www.amazon.com/Stila-Lip-Glaze-Plum/dp/B000666C9Q/ref=pd_bbs_3/105-5368721-1414842?ie=UTF8&s=beauty&qid=1194563604&sr=8-3)
  • stila glaze liner in rose (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0007G7OR4/sr=8-3/qid=1194563604/ref=dp_also-recommended_1/105-5368721-1414842?ie=UTF8&n=3760911&s=beauty&qid=1194563604&sr=8-3)

i purchased all the makeup in anticipation of painting my own face for the marine corps birthday ball, which is a formal event i need to attend with my husband in a week or so.

rounding out my list of eleven things is two boxes of airborn hard gummy throat lozenges (because i'm still nursing my horrible flu), two foot long subway sandwiches for lunch for my husband and i yesterday, and a myriad of gatorades and lifewaters to keep my hydrated these past few days. :-)

and here's a link to my amazon wishlist:
Image (http://www.amazon.com/gp/registry/wishlist/9MCCES5M5FRF/ref=wl_web/)
awww ;-) that's sweet!
The last 10 books I bought for myself from Amazon were:
Mother to Mother by Sindiwe Magona
California Native Plants for the Garden by Carol Bornstein, David Fross, and Bart O'Brien
The Naked and the Dead by Norman Mailer
Pages for You by Sylvia Brownrigg
S.: A Novel about the Balkans by Slavenka Drakulić
The Enormous Room by e. e. cummings
You Can't Get Lost in Cape Town by Zoë Wicomb
Love and Vertigo by Hsu-Ming Teo
The Deadwood Beetle by Mylène Dressler
Memoirs of Hardrian by Marguerite Yourcenar
I haven't yet received the Sindiwe Magona book in the mail (I just ordered it yesterday). I've received the others, but I haven't yet read the Wicomb, Teo, or Yourcenar books. I did read the others already.

But sometimes the books I buy for my friends are even more revealing about me than the ones I buy for myself, because I tend to buy my own very favorite books for my friends. The last 10 books I bought for my friends from Amazon were:
As Meat Loves Salt by Maria McCann (for three different people)
A Blind Man Can See How Much I Love You: Stories by Amy Bloom (for two different people)
When I Was Five I Killed Myself by Howard Buten (for two different people)
The Carnal Prayer Mat by Li Yu (for two different people)
On Subbing: The First Four Years by Dave Roche (for two different people)
The Female Man by Joanna Russ (for two different people)
Stone Butch Blues by Leslie Feinberg
Persepolis: The Story of a Childhood by Marjane Satrapi
The Philosophy of Andy Warhol (From A to B and Back Again) by Andy Warhol
The Mute's Soliloquy: A Memoir by Pramoedya Ananta Toer
My Amazon wish list is here (http://www.amazon.com/gp/registry/wishlist/I6DDZSX2XZNF/).
WOW you're a fast reader!

I want to read some Amy Bloom 'cause I'm curious about her -- is A Blind Man Can See How Much I Love You: Stories your favorite of her works?
Yes, it is. I definitely recommend it.
Hmm, lemme see. I've been shopping for Critter lately, for his birthday.

1) I bought new sneakers today. My old ones were worn out; it was the colors that attracted me: lime green suede and chocolate brown; it the zippers that sold me.

2) I bought a new luggage tag yesterday. I scan my driver license and put the color copy in the tag for easier "show id" with checks, etc. The new tag is a prismatic rainbow "plaid." One side of the prisms shows horizontal stripes; the other shows vertical.

3) New earbuds for my shuffle.
oooh, zippered lime green shoes??? I want some! what brand/style?

oooh, I like the sound of that luggage tag too! ;-)
Alas, my powers of recollections and description are slipping.

Lime green suede with brown embellishments and sky blue nylon inserts. The zippers form small pockets on the outer side of each shoe. The brand is Kangaroos, due to the pouch.

Hmm, let me think. The last several things I've purchased...

- hemp choker
- cloth purse made in Nepal
- pair of shoes
- three t-shirts
- CD: "Haunted" by Poe
- CD: "Witchcraft and Ritual Music" recorded in Kenya and Tanzania
(the last four things on this list I found in a thrift store)
- books: "Haunted" by Chuck Palahniuk and a collection of essays by Ralph Waldo Emerson

...I can't think of any other things that aren't food/coffee. And those aren't really in chronological order, haha. :)

I liked this entry!
Oh, and yeah, Amazon wishlist is here (http://www.amazon.com/gp/registry/registry.html/002-5676118-6628039?ie=UTF8&type=wishlist&id=2RYJBPATUS336).
oooh, I like your taste in music! and you are awesome for thrift-shopping.

yay! glad you liked!

My wishlist really, really wouldn't fit in a post, LOL!

Amazon wishlist (all 49 pages of it, in different categorized lists, lol)
Del.icio.us wishlist (for items not found on amazon)

I'll try to do a post about recent purchases, though.
[personal profile] sylvanfae Ponderance
P.S. It's not that I'm materialistic, LOL, I'm just a faerie - Oooh shiny! I like to decorate my living space with books, its air with music, my brain with the content of all the media, and myself with fey clothes and jewelry. *shrug*

I could be just as happy in living in a tree, with collected stones and twigs and leaves, heh!
I know exactly what you mean! I'm torn between wanting to get rid of everything because then I would feel more free, and wanting to surround myself with beauty. It's very cool that you're the same way!
LOL! :D thanks!
OH. MY. GOSH. Your spirituality wishlist could practically be mine! I'm busy adding a bunch of your wishes to my own list :D

We should have a conversation about trees sometime. ♥
amazon wish list (http://www.amazon.com/gp/registry/registry.html/103-4404134-8564637?ie=UTF8&type=wishlist&id=LR7197LS7UKR)

As for the last items I've bought? Hrm...
~ the boxed set of all seven hardcover Harry Potter books
~ the American Sociological Association Style Guide
~ socks
~ beads

That, conveniently, is all I can really remember. :P
cool choices! where'd you get the beads, and what kind?
It was a variety of different stuff. I was part of a group buy from fire mountain (http://www.firemountaingems.com), and a small order for myself from art beads (http://www.artbeads.com). I only ordered findings really, nothing exciting (sad).
My incomplete wishlist here (http://www.amazon.com/gp/registry/wishlist/3PPB4HTRD4E5M/ref=cm_wl_sortbar_o_page_1?ie=UTF8&page=1) from Amazon.com.

This is almost strictly books/CDs/DVDs because things like jewelry and clothes and whatnot are "specialized" and I'm a bit more selective where I shop. I'm a big fan of local, indie artists. (I can send you links to a few favorites if you're dying to see some of my favorites.)

Last 10 things bought:

1. Glass frit in jade green, garnet, and amythest.
2. LUSH's "Healing Hands" lotion - a Godsend.
3. My father's Christmas present (Diana Krall, live CD/DVD)
4. Illumination's "Napa Valley" candle.
5. Shampoo/conditioner/body wash. I was out.
6. Khaki slacks and a black, form fitting sweater with a white button up shirt for underneathe. I look terribly bookish in it. ;)
7. A set of markers. Good ones.
8. "Billy Straight" by Jonathan Kellerman. At a garage sale for fifty cents.
9. A set of ballpoint "clicky" pens. I use 'em for work.
10. A NaNoWriMo shirt.

Huh. I'm kinda boring. :)
I would love to see links to those local favorites of yours! ;-)
I don't have any official wish lists, but here are the things I just recently purchased and the things I'm intending to get in the future when I have the time.

Recently purchased:
1. Death Note manga (all the volumes)
2. A Dialogue on Love - Eve Kosofsky Sedgwick (prominent queer theorist...this is a text she wrote after being diagnosed with breast cancer: it goes back and forth between different styles, incorporates her therapist's notes, and was inspired by an early Japanese form of writing).
3. The Complete Unabridged Works of Percy Bysshe Shelley
4. A small Nataraja charm bracelet
5. MAC paint pots in green, blue, pink, and purple (eyeliners too)
6. a tiny teddy bear I found in a thrift store some months ago and sewed back together with special patches of significant cloth for Dani to carry with him on his travels
7. a ton of violet-and-musk scented candles and incense
8. A ton of cheap silken cloth for my kamidana
9. iTunes cards. o_0

Things I want to purchase:
1. ....well, a new apartment.
2. a bunch of fuzzy mice for Inari and Sekhmet
3. another knit toboggan with kitten ears (lolitakisama.com)
4. ink-blue hair dye
5. Silvery peacock-plume clips I found for my hair
6. Some sort of worthwhile primer on the ins and outs of Hinduism and some sort of informative text on the Quakers
