Mr. & Mrs. Smith / out with Del, listening
Saturday I went out with my
jedibubbles and we had a lighthearted fun time... we sat on The Green Couch at the local coffeehouse and talked for a bit, mostly about the Narnia movie coming out in December, and rambling on to other books we read as kids...
Then we went to see "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" which I had mixed reactions to. Endless pointless violence... but it was all done in a very sarcastic way, and kept us laughing most of the time. Bah. I want Angelina to go back to movies that I can thrill over and praise without reservation. This one was pretty good -- it had points of philosophy and depth, if you looked hard enough, but I just couldn't get into it. I suppose part of the problem of learning to respect every human means that I can no longer think in 'good guy, bad guy, kill kill kill.' The thing that bothered me the most, though, was the eroticized violence. A man beating a woman will never be anything other than disgusting and evil, even if she is beating him right back. And I just couldn't stand seeing my girl get beat up. Del kept leaning over and tapping my shoulder and whispering, "are you all right?" I suppose I must have looked even more upset than I was. But I did kinda enjoy it, because it was presented in a humorous light, and Angelina can make any movie worth seeing at least once. If you like seeing stuff blown up and shooting car chases, you'll probably love it.
After the movie we went to Barnes and Noble and scanned the sci-fi/fantasy section. I don't think she's actually tried more authors than me (if you don't count the Star Wars series authors) but we have a completely different list. It makes for interesting chatting... oh, and she told me about an alternate history novel by Silverburg where the gypsies of Earth are actually a race from another planet, I neeeed to read that. I am a nuevogypsy, after all.
Finally she took me home, since it was late and she had to get up early the next morning... But we started talking about more soul-ish things, and I asked her if she wanted to go sit on my bed and talk. I totally expected her to say no, since it was late and all, but she said yes, so we did. I mostly just listened and played with her hair, rubbed her back. She has a lot on her mind right now. I felt more comfortable with her than I've ever been -- it's amazing what letting go of expectations will do. (I need to remember that) I felt honored to be there for her. She's such an amazing person.

(it's a great movie to kiss during...*lol*)
And I gave her the necklace...she seems to quite like it (especially for a girl who seldom wears jewelry) and she got quite a few compliments at church with it. One woman in our church asked where she got it. I was wondering if you had your website up.
(I took a few snapshots but will try to take a couple more and send them to you)
So i can give the link to people who asked about the necklace?
I did like the rest of the movie, even if the first 10 minutes or so were a little slow. it was funnier than i thought it would be, and that's always good.
Mr. Smith: Chicken shit!!
Mrs. Smith: Pussy!!!
Ha ha ha ha.
i'm wondering what you, dear belenen, who seem wise beyond your years, see in her as a role model? honestly. serious question.
*ducks, covers and prepares to run far and fast.*
acting range limited? Okay, permit me a little OMGing here. What have you seen her in? She is, in my opinion, the best and most flexible actress alive today. If you haven't seen them, watch Girl Interrupted, Playing By Heart, Gia, and Life or Something Like It. Those movies pretty much run the gamut of personalities, and she becomes the roles. Sadly, her most famous movies haven't shown off her acting ability much, but that's always the way.
As far as the Billy Bob thing and the tattoos, well, that's why I love her. I've had to explain this before, let me find it...
And unlike most hollywood stars, she pours herself out for people who can never give back. She spends a lot of her own money -- I think it was 1/3rd -- on helping refugees. That's pretty damn impressive.
And just one example -- she went to Pakistan, and in honor to the customs there, she wore very modest garb, including a headwrap. That little thing just says a lot about her, I think. She recognizes the beauty in all people.
I could go on and on... but I'll stop. ;-)
but it is good to see fire in your belly. we must all have our passions.
i was going on a very limited number of roles that i had seen her
play. and, while i wasn't really inspired by her acting in Girl
Interupted, i'll take your word on her other roles.
and i'm happy to hear that she is passionate about so many causes.
i suppose i spoke out of turn, with too little foreknowledge --
something that is rare for me. but then again, i've not really been
much like me for the past couple of weeks. mea culpa.
i do hope you shall forgive me for taking a pot-shot at someone's hero
-- again unlike me -- and that you won't hold this abberant behaviour
against me.
i think i was just having one of those days...
peace.
donald (aka wandrlost)
She's kinda a role model for me, being so honest and herself in the face of so much opposition.
just so you know...
i told him "screw that, i want to go there, sniff the books, and pet the cats!"
My Bel, she listens and understands and pets my hair!
Hopefully they don't screw it up.
And your icon, is that you on the right, because if so you look like Sarah Mclachlan in that pic!
Now for right and left, I suck. And I can't figure out which right -- my right or the computer's right? But I'm the one closest to the 3, the other one is
Thanks for taking such an interest, it means a lot to me. ;-)
